The Road & Track Trophy
THE ROAD & TRACK MAGAZINE’S ENGINE-TURNED TROPHY: As seen in the interview with Jay Leno on 2/19/14, this is the
latest version of R&T’s “The Car We Would Most Like To Drive” trophy that will be awarded at the Pebble Beach Concours
d’Elegance in August 2014. It features R&T’s latest logo on the horn button and on the venue plaque since Hearst
Corporation recently obtained R&T Magazine.

Dashboard Trophy/Sculpture
DASHBOARD TROPHY/SCULPTURE:
Debuted in the interview with Jay Leno on 2/19/14. It is 16” long horizontally, and is
made of copper, red bronze and sterling silver. The screws are brass and stainless steel. The steering wheel rotates, the
mirror is adjustable vertically, and the two keys on the key ring dangle from the inserted brass ignition key. This is the first of
three images of this piece.

R&T's 'World's Best Cars'
R&T MAGAZINE: My ‘World’s Best Cars’ solid brass plaque that was used on the cover, contents page and throughout the
article on/in R&T, July 1989 (see the next image).
.
Plaque on R&T Cover
R&T MAGAZINE: My ‘World’s Best Cars’ brass plaque on cover of R&T, July 1989. Additionally this plaque appeared on the
contents page and every page of this feature article.
Original plans called for this plaque to be an airbrush illustration, but that fell through. At the last minute, I produced this 3-D
brass photo prop for them to photograph (see the previous image).
.
Hazard Xing 60 Drawing
HAZARD XING 60 CUP DRAWING: This is a cross-section, cut-away ink over graphite rendering of the cup on coquille paper.
The actual sterling cup was produced (see the next image) from this ‘working plan’ that was drawn in advance.
.
Sterling Hazard Cup
HAZARD XING 60 CUP: Color oxidized sterling silver with a bezel-set ruby. The truck, hidden under the base, spins around
its ‘roadway’ when the cup is tilted.
A gentleman, whose last name was Hazard, owned a large construction company that built a number of freeways and bridges
in San Diego. He was given a huge sixtieth birthday bash by a number of close friends, one of whom was my client who
wanted this special celebratory sterling silver cup made especially for the event.
When viewed right-side-up, there is nothing particularly unusual about the cup. But when the cup is tilted for drinking, one will
find (concealed under the base) a truck that spins around a ‘roadway’ that has the words ‘Hazard Xing 60’ written in advance
of the limit line.
See the previous image for the 'working plan' drawing of this cup.
.

ORANGE COAST MAGAZINE: Priscilla Barnes (from the TV series Three's Company) with my key ring, on the cover of the
Orange Coast Magazine's 1983 Automotive Guide, Jan. 1983, p 147, left; and the Rolls-Royce Sterling Ignition Key Ring that
she held in the photo shoot, right.
.
2nd City Council's Logo
2nd CITY COUNCIL’S LOGO: As originally conceived in metal, left; and for print in black and white, right.
The 2nd City Council Art Gallery + Performance Space (2cc) wanted a sophisticated logo design to fit three parameters: To
be made in metal, interpreted to black and white on stationary, and eventually be made into a neon blade sign.
Old city seals from the 1930s are a major influence in my designing logos. Virtually every detail on these old seals are
symbolic, and so it is with the 2cc logo, on which every detail has some significance to the organization: The background is of
corrugated sheet metal (honoring the only other business located in the 1930 Art Deco building: Wille’s Tin Shop). The actual
shape of the face is an outline of the border of the East Village Arts District (EVAD) in Long Beach, California. From the top
clockwise: E. 7th St., Alamitos Ave, Ocean Blvd, and Long Beach Blvd. The resulting trapezoid mimics the building’s shape,
as it is also a trapezoid, and within its large gallery there is a smaller trapezoidal-shaped gallery called ‘The Trapezoid.’ The
abbreviation used for the gallery’s name is 2cc, the letters of which make up the brow, eyes and nose. The ear stud is the
exact location of the 2cc in EVAD, between 4th and 5th Streets on Alamitos Ave.

Dwight Bennett's Logo
DWIGHT BENNETT’S LOGO: I designed and hand-inked the original logo for my business card.
See how it appears as a photo-etching in the next image.

and a 'negative etch' wherein the entire background is etched, leaving only the polished brass logo lines, right.
See my logo as printed on my business card in the previous image.
.
BMW Ign. Key Rings
MY BMW STERLING IGNITION KEY RINGS: The frontside and backside.
Sterling Ignition Key Rings utilize factory master key blanks that you can get cut to match you car’s key at a locksmith’s (in
some cases, the owner of a vehicle must supply their own key blank). Then you can use this to operate your car instead of
your rubber headed factory key.

'Art Gallery' Neon Sign
‘ART GALLERY’ NEON SIGN: My sign in daylight with the tubes lit, above; and a detail of part of the sign in daylight with the
tubes off, below.
This ‘Art Gallery’ neon sign has a brushed aluminum front plate with pierced out lettering. The intermediate color ‘tone’ in
each letter is of perforated brass sheet that allows some of the backlit neon light through when the sign is turned on in either
the dark or daylight; but by day, you can see the intermediate color ‘tone’ is actually the gold-toned perforated brass.
See the next image for the other of these two matching neon signs.

Automobile Mag Plaque
MY PLAQUE: I made Automobile Magazine’s ‘Automobile of the Year Porsche Boxster’ plaques.
.
The First Ruf Emblem
RUF REAR DECK EMBLEM: I made the first flat black powder coated rear deck Ruf emblems like this one.
When Louis Ruf sent his high performance ‘remanufactured’ Porsches to the U.S. automotive press for road testing with no
Ruf emblems, the photographers focused their cameras on the Porsche badges for their articles. Ruf cars needed Ruf
emblems to differentiate them from ‘pedestrian’ Porsches.
In 1985, I made the first twenty-five RUF rear deck emblems retroactively for most of the first Rufs delivered to the U.S. I
designed the flat black powder coated aluminum castings to fit the contour of the 911’s rear deck while using the same two
holes and nuts that the stock ‘turbo’ script used, thus eliminating a trip to the body shop.
See the original Ruf hubcaps I made in the next image.
.
The First Ruf Hub Caps
RUF CUSTOM HUBCAP: The original Ruf hubcaps I made were powder coated flat black aluminum.
After designing the first Ruf rear deck emblems in 1985, I got a request to design the first Ruf hubcaps. I retroactively made
the first eighty aluminum Ruf hubcaps, which were powder coated flat black.
See the previous image for the first Ruf rear deck emblems I made.

R&T Plaque Awards
R&T MAGAZINE: Two of the ten ‘One of the 10 Best Cars in the World’ plaques I made, Acura NSX, left; and Ferrari 348tb &
348ts, right.

edges that were given to the respective manufacturers. The left one is for the Acura NSX. The one on the right is for the
Ferrari 348tb & 348ts.

Concours d’Elegance and Historic Races at Road America, Elkart Lake, like this one with an Autounion sculpture on it.
